White Elephant Nantucket

To ensure that the White Elephant's historic building maintained its charm while integrating contemporary artwork, the hotel collaborated with art consultant and curator Emily Santangelo. Emily initiated the Artist in Residency Program in August 2022. Six artists stayed at the hotel for two weeks, drawing inspiration from the surroundings to create original works. Nearly 300 new pieces, ranging from New England-focused watercolors to dreamy beach portraits, now adorn the property's corridors, rooms, and garden cottages. Each room boasts a unique selection of artwork, offering guests a distinctive artistic experience. Among the standout pieces is a 16-foot-long painting by Israeli artist Orit Fuchs, depicting a woman in Nantucket reds in a rowboat against a backdrop of harbor cottages. This cheerful artwork greets guests in the lobby, setting the tone for a delightful stay filled with anticipation and lightness.
